Those are some of the questions raised in a legal fight waged by Joseph McCall and the Hyattsville Fraternal Order of Police against the Hyattsville City Police Department. On February 25, 2018, McCall was fired from the Hyattsville police force effective March 16, 2018.
A 12-year veteran of the Hyattsville City Police Department died this week after a two-year battle with cancer. According to an announcement from the city of Hyattsville, Sergeant Anthony Knox died July 17, 2018. Knox had been with the Hyattsville police since January 2006. Before that, he had also served with the Edmonston Police Department, the Department of Defense Police and the U.S. Army. During his time with HCPD, he earned several recognitions, including a sliver medal of valor, a bronze medal of valor, police officer of the year, lifesaving award and leadership award, among other commendations.
