Motorist kills pedestrian on Lanham road with few crosswalks, sidewalks

A 39-year-old Columbia woman, Julie Risal, was killed by a motorist in Lanham trying to cross a three mile stretch of road served by a single crosswalk. The collision occurred June 8, 2018, at 3:30 a.m. near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Highway and Forbes Boulevard, according to the Prince George’s County Police Department. The driver of the car remained on the scene. Risal was taken to the hospital, where she died hours later. Martin Luther King Jr. Highway has minimal pedestrian or cyclist infrastructure in that area.
