Plans for a new city-owned community center in the College Park Woods neighborhood were unanimously approved by the Prince George’s County Planning Board during its Jan. 28, 2021 meeting.

The new community center replaces a previous community center and pool that has been demolished for several years. Located at 3545 Marlbrough Way, the new building will be a 2,424 square feet, one-story facility set among a grassy open field on the site of the former pool. Included in the plans are a 100-seat capacity meeting room, a kitchenette, as well as a lobby and storage areas.

The project is estimated to cost nearly $1 million. When the project was originally bid out, city officials estimated it would cost roughly half that. The increase in cost is partially due to expanded plans for the building, which during the design process grew from 2,200 square feet to 2,400 square feet, and saw the addition of high ceilings and a pitched-flat roof which in turn required structural redesigns.
